摘　　要：《中国丛报》(1832-1851)是19世纪中期西方人在中国创办历时最长、影响最大的英文刊物,为当时西方人全面了解中国提供了一个平台。20年间,《中国丛报》向英语世界译介了近70种中国典籍,内容涵盖语言文学、历史、科学、宗教、地理、政治诸多方面,为当时中西文化交流架起了一座桥梁。不过,由于主客观方面的原因,《中国丛报》上中国典籍译介文章中的误读现象比较严重。《中国丛报》作为19世纪中国文化西传的"桥头堡",无论是其成功之处,还是其不足之处,都可以为当今中国文化走出去提供借鉴和启示。Chinese Repository （ 1832 - 1851 ）, established by Elijah Coleman Bridgman, was the most influ- ential English periodical in China at that time and provided a platform for the westerners to understand Chi- na. During its twenty years of publication, it introduced and translated nearly 70 Chinese classics concern- ing language and literature, history, science, religion, geography politics, etc. into English, which built a bridge for the cultural exchanges between China and western countries. However, there were also many misreading in its introduction and translation of the Chinese classics due to objective or subjective reasons. As the main platform of introducing Chinese culture into the western world in the 19th century, Chinese Re- pository can provide some implications for promotion of Chinese culture overseas in the contemporary age.
